Ever since I was a girl, I have loved to create with fabric and yarn. Crafting, sewing and decorating are creative and fun, but what makes it more satisfying is when it’s also useful – a blessing to family, friends and even people we don’t know. That is the bedrock of Faith’s Women’s Sewing Group; their mission is to show the love of Christ to others through the work of their hands.
Did you even know that Faith has a Sewing Group? For more than 20 years, a group of women have gathered twice a month to sew and craft items to bless others–items that make life a bit easier and bring comfort to those who receive them. I recently spoke with the group’s leader, Vicki Kuntz, and was quite impressed with the variety of items they make and the far reach of their ministry. To give you an idea of how they bless others, here are some of the things they make:
• Quilts for babies, children, adults and palliative-care patients
• Heart-shaped pillows for heart- and chest-injury patients
• Comfort tote bags filled with a Christian coloring book, crayons, colored pencils and a Beanie animal for children in the hospital
• Comfort blankets that hold stuffed animals to have available in patrol cars and the E.R. for children in trauma situations
• Bereavement layettes for parents who have lost a baby
• Pillowcases for children in the hospital and residents of assisted living facilities
• Heating wraps for those in hospice
• Walker bags for those in rehabilitation centers and nursing homes
• Activity memory care mats for Alzheimer’s residents
• Knitted or crocheted afghans for babies, children and adults and for the Women’s Safety House
• Tiny crocheted octopuses for babies in the neonatal unit
• Puppets representing family and community service members and animals for ChildSafe to use to help children express their feelings
• Surgical/scrub hats and face masks for four area hospitals and health facilities to use during the coronavirus pandemic
Isn’t that amazing? These women are talented and dedicated! They have blessed hundreds of people in Larimer County and the surrounding areas. Let’s be sure to tell these ladies thank you.
The Women’s Sewing Group welcomes beginners and experienced crafters from all over northern Colorado. If you, like me, are drawn to this kind of work and would like to bless others in this way, email women@faithchurchfc.org or call the church office (970-226-2095) to learn how you can participate.

Outside of work and ministry, Janet enjoys baking, reading, hiking, crocheting, and spending time with her kids and grandkids.
