We all have dreams. Big dreams, little dreams, outlandish dreams and unfulfilled dreams. The thing about dreams is they are only dreams until we act on them and they become a reality.
We all have those dreams that get shelved for one reason or another. Perhaps it’s because of a job, a relationship, finances or just plain laziness (hey, we all love Netflix). Whatever the reason, the untended dream grows dim, and for many, it eventually sits dormant and dies.
Recently, I had the opportunity to get an advanced copy of Dream Big, a book by one of my favorite authors and someone who has spoken at Faith in the past, Bob Goff. He penned, among others, the books Love Does and Everybody Always.
His new book is an adaptation of his in-person workshop where he helps people find and fulfill their dreams. The book is less narrative and more prescriptive than his others, but it is still full of Bob’s trademark witty and heartfelt stories. Not quite a workbook or self-help book, I would call it more of a help-yourself book.
Bob tees up three seemingly simple questions: Who are you? Where are you? And what do you want? At face value, these seem like simple enough questions; however, throughout the course of the book, Bob unpacks what it means to truly explore these questions.
The book challenges readers to take a deep dive into identifying their purpose in life. Bob asks them to look at not just what makes them happy but what brings them meaning. Bob provides tools for people to uncover the obstacles and fears that may be keeping them from living their dreams. Perhaps this means making changes in life, but Dream Big encourages the reader to step into that uncomfortable space and take the first step.
With everything that is happening in the world right now, the book (due to be released on June 23) arrives at an especially poignant time. Change is in the air, and Bob provides a way to inject meaning into life with Christ as the compass. For anyone who has ever had a dream–big, little, or in between, Dream Big is an inspiring read that, at the very least, will lift your spirits and, at the most, ignite your dreams.
